Local Benevolence
SOV donates the monies collected from special offerings, such as those of Lenten
Services, to the Catholic Outreach every year. The Grand Valley Catholic Outreach is dedicated to helping
all individuals who appear at their doorstep in need of assistance, in God's name. Sponsored by the four Catholic parishes
in Grand Junction & working in concert with local churches of various denominations, Catholic Outreach offers a place
where needy citizens can get food, clothing and financial assistance with such things as rent & utility, or transportation.
Food, clothing, & funding come almost exclusively from local support & donations. The Catholic Outreach
can be contacted at (970)241-3658.
SOV donates designated funds to the Marillac Clinic on a quarterly basis. The Marillac clinics provide medical
& dental assistance to low income and uninsured families and individuals within our community. The Marillac Clinic
can be contacted at (970)255-1782.

World Benevolence
SOV contributes to the ELCA World Hunger Program yearly. The program strives to improve the lives of people in need in the United States and around the world by:
--providing immediate relief for people affected by chronic hunger
and poverty;
--assisting whole communities through long-term, sustainable
development to help alleviate chronic hunger and poverty
--advocating for justice by changing laws and systems
--educating members of the ELCA in awareness of issues relating
to hunger, poverty and justice.
SOV participates in the annual Relay for Life to help support the American Cancer Society. Members of the congregation volunteer their time, effort, money, and sometimes even hair to raise money for
the Relay for Life marathon that takes place at Stoker Stadium every June. One or more teams of ten participate
in the all-night walk designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer
Society. The team members take turns walking and sleeping, always trying to keep one member on the track at all
times.
Crop Walk is another marathon, community-based fund raising event SOV particpates in to raise money for local hunger-fighting
agencies as well as the international relief and development efforts of Church World Service.
